NEBBI Police in Nebbi District have arrested Dominic Ofoyrwoth, a resident of Kucwiny, over alleged derogatory remarks targeting the Catholic Church that were circulated on social media.
Nebbi District Police Commander SSP James Mwesigye said Ofoyrwoth had reportedly been warned several times to stop making the remarks but allegedly continued.
According to police, the matter has been recorded as a case of suspected hate speech and offensive communication, as investigations into the allegations continue.
Police are yet to provide further details on the specific content of the remarks or indicate what charges may follow after investigations.
Authorities have continued to caution members of the public against using social media to circulate content that could be considered offensive, inflammatory or likely to incite hostility.
