Kisubi Hospital Commissions AI-Powered MRI Machine to Advance Medical Care
KISUBI, UGANDA — Kisubi Hospital has commissioned and blessed a new artificial intelligence (AI)-powered Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine, marking a significant milestone in the advancement of medical imaging and healthcare delivery in Uganda.
The commissioning and blessing ceremony was presided over by His Grace Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere and Hon. Dr Chris Baryomunsi, Uganda’s Minister of Health.
Unlike conventional MRI scanners, the new system incorporates artificial intelligence technology designed to interact with operators through voice commands and assist medical professionals in capturing clearer images with greater speed and precision.
According to the hospital, the technology goes beyond traditional imaging systems by enabling more interactive communication between the machine and its operator, helping to streamline scanning procedures and improve workflow efficiency.
“We thought we were just installing an MRI — but it turns out, it’s a smart machine that actually reasons with the operator. Yes, it listens. I think. It responds,” the hospital said, highlighting the system’s interactive capabilities.
The AI-powered MRI scanner is expected to support a wide range of diagnostic examinations, strengthening the hospital’s capacity to assist healthcare professionals in detecting, assessing and monitoring various medical conditions.
The introduction of the advanced imaging system represents an important investment in modern healthcare infrastructure and reflects the growing role of artificial intelligence in supporting medical professionals, improving diagnostic workflows and enhancing the delivery of healthcare services.
Through this development, Kisubi Hospital reaffirms its commitment to embracing medical innovation and improving the quality of healthcare available to patients in Uganda and the wider East African region.
